Important:

·                     Customers who have opted out of the checked baggage allowance are not entitled to check any bags for free. Excess baggage fees will apply to checked baggage.

·                     For baggage exceeding these limits, please refer to our Excess Baggage fees.

·                     No bags exceeding 32kg (70lb) in weight or 292cm (115in) in linear dimensions will be accepted as checked baggage. Please contact Air Canada Cargo for handling.

Packing Tips

  • Do not wrap bungee cords, ties or straps around baggage.
  • Remove all old airline tags from your luggage.
  • Attach identification tags to the inside and outside of the bag, giving destination as well as home addresses.
  • Keep all medications and high value items such as cameras, jewelry electronic devices and cash in your carry-on baggage, do not put them in checked baggage.

Please note that some seemingly harmless goods can be dangerous on board an aircraft and should not be packed in either checked or carry-on baggage:

No camping fuels (e.g. propane) no matches, no lighters or other dangerous goods as described under the dangerous goods page.

Garment Bags: Each garment bag is a piece of luggage subject to standard rules, except that the dimensional  restrictions do not apply.

 

 

Carry-on baggage allowance

Air Canada employees are required to enforce carry-on baggage size and weight restrictions, as per Transport Canada regulations, in order to avoid flight delays and ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

Items which fall within the 2-piece carry-on allowance include:

  • Carry-On bags, suitcases, briefcases
  • Laptop computers
  • Diaper bags, camera cases, cartons

In addition, these items can be carried on and do not count towards your baggage allowance:

  • Outer garments (e.g. coats, hats, etc.)
  • Purses up to 25cm x 30cm x 20cm (10" x 12" x 8")
  • Assistive devices (e.g. canes, crutches, walkers, etc.)
  • Strollers and child restraint systems
  • Containers carrying life sustaining items
  • Urns containing human remains

Note: Remember to include all airport and duty-free purchases in your carry-on allowance.

Security Enhancements

Stowage on board

Heavy items are stowed under the seat in front of you and lighter ones in the overhead bin.

Sharp objects – Not PermittedNOT PERMITTED

Sharp objects are not permitted as carry-on. Place these and any cutting or piercing items in your "Checked Baggage".

Toy guns, sporting articles such as golf clubs, baseball bats, skates, etc. are not permitted as carry-on.

Syringes or needles for personal medical use are allowed onboard providing the needle guard is intact, and must be accompanied by the prescription medication with a printed label identifying the medication name and the issuing medical office or pharmacy.

Electronic equipment - PermittedPERMITTED

These items can be placed in your carry-on baggage, however to bring these items on-board make sure to turn the power on for the security check.
